The Value of the Oil from the Grape Seed

From all the variety of grapes the two make more clear distinction: seedless varieties and those with seeds. The value of former is in pleasurable enjoying of it’s consuming as food – just eat it and not think of seeds that you should avoid swallowing. Though the latter kind makes grapes valuable in its fullest – grape seed is a well of healthful properties.

Grape seed oil is extracted with the purpose to deliver the most valuable properties of the seed active components. It is a vegetable oil pressed from the seeds of the grapes of different varieties. Until 20th century grape seed oil production or use wasn’t really widespread. That is due to the fact that compared to the nuts and beans, the grape seed does not contain such a concentration of oil as those oil-producing seeds.

But since the beginning of 20th century grape seed oil has become popular as a component in salad dressings, flavored oils, deep frying, marinades and baking. The oil is also added to massage lotions, sunburn repair substances, body hygiene creams, lip balm, hair products and hand creams.

The grape seed oil has relatively high smoke point, which made it possible to be used in cooking – especially at high temperatures. So if you are into delicious stir-fries, sautéing and fondue, grape seed oil is just the right choice. Moreover, it has light neutral taste, a bit “nutty”, so won’t interfere with the taste of your dishes. The oil is often used as a base for flavoring and infusing with rosemary, garlic and various herbs and spices. Homemade mayonnaise is often done on its base, too.

Grape seed oil is also a great diet option. Although its metabolic energy density is 120 kcal per tablespoon (34 kJ/ml), little oil is needed for cooking and it can be used within low-fat diet. Just remember to follow good frying techniques to reduce the amount of absorbed oil: not overcrowding the pan and using enough oil while keeping it at the correct temperature.

Since grape seed oil contains lower levels of cholesterol and plentiful antioxidants, it could be significant for those who are at risk of heart attack and have other cardio-vascular disorders.

In cosmetics grape seed oil is used as an ingredient that possesses regenerative and restructuring qualities for damaged and stressed tissues and enhances skin moisturization. The epithelium and nerve cells (especially the skin around the eyes) retain normal structure due its repair action.

So if you still grumble while the seeds interfere with the taste of the grape fruit, remember what a great job they do afterall.
