Mountain People do not use Viagra

It is hard to imagine that while we are drinking martini at the city club with our friends to ambient music while our mobile phones are ringing; there are people who enjoy at this time the night sky spotted in stars while stirring their supper in self-made pot. Probably they stir there porridge made out of the maca root, so popular product in the Andes Mountains (and generally cultivated there).

And when later after club men are secretly taking Viagra to make their women happy, those mountain-dwellers do not take too much efforts for that because of that maca dinner they just had.

In the Andes amca has been used for centuries as an aphrodisiac and to enhance fertility (both in humans and animals). The root has also been a valuable commodity for the Andean Indians and is used in trade between communities being equaled to rice, corn, green vegetables, and beans. The root is rich in protein, starches, sugars, and essential nutrients (especially iodine and iron) and is greatly valued as an immunostimulant, hormonal and fertility enhancer and an effective aphrodisiac.

Except nutrition and medical uses, maca is greatly valued for its aphrodisiac properties which are explained by the presence of p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate chemical. The beneficial effects for sexual function and fertility are also explained by the proteins and vital nutrients that maca contains. The dried root is a real well of minerals, especially selenium, calcium, magnesium, and iron; fatty acids including linolenic acid, palmitic acid, and oleic acids, as well as polysaccharides.

As proved by clinical trials, maca extracts are able to heighten libido and improve semen quality, though no studies have been conducted on men with sexual dysfunction. The increase in sperm motility and motile sperms quantity (over 100%), as well as increase in the men’s total sperm count was also proved by the researches, while the conclusion that maca does not alter hormonal levels was made. So taking in consideration these beneficial properties, US and Peruvian companies have started producing powders, capsules and other products based on maca extractions.

The other way to appreciate maca’s fertility enhancing and aphrodisiac properties is to make maca’s preparations as those indigenous and wise mountain-dwellers. Since maca is a common product used in food, various porridges and mixtures are prepared of it. Dry roots mixed with milk and boiled that way make porridge that serves as a common meal and is equaled to potato puree, being less fattening though. Matia, pit-roasted maca root preparation is the most common preparation that Peruvian people favor. The root is also often mixed with other vegetables, grains, or potatoes, or made into flour for baking.

Hopefully, one day you will appreciate maca and see why Peruvians and mountain-dwellers favor it so much.
